In this Inspired by Coaching article I invite you to experience Seven Ways To Use The Power Of Words For Success
If you enjoyed "How To Embrace The Power of Words To Transform Your Life" you'll love these simple yet profound tips to give yourself the edge. (Click the link if you want to read that first.)
These steps give you the tools to be your own life coach. Seven steps, to play with. Choose your favourite or try them all. Thats your call. Build your own routines or rituals, if you prefer, around these practices.
1 - Start Your Day With Greatness In Mind
How do you set up your day for success? What routines do you currently employ? More importantly what are your key words you use to influence your unconscious mind?
For example, do yo have a to-do list?
What if it became a To-Win list? Exactly the same thing, except just one word changes the mindset which changes your attitude, behaviour, and therefore your outcomes. That is the power of words in action.
Do you have problems to tackle, or challenges that inspire you to reach the next level?
One of my favourite first thing in the morning statements came from Jim Rohn. Are you getting up to go to work, or are you getting to work on your fortune? Get up and get to work on your fortune has such a sweet sounding ring to it. Who would avoid getting to work on their fortune?
2 - Launch Your Ship In The Right Waters
"We must be willing to let go of the life we had planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - E.M. Forster
Does your job really suck, or are you sucking at your job because you couldn't motivate yourself to do something about it? Your destiny can be transformed with the right words and right mindset. There is a role, a place, a team where you will shine like never before. If you are already there congratulations. Shine. Be the best you that you can be and enjoy the process.
If you are there but not shining, what's holding you back? Try using a new set of words to empower yourself. Encouragement can be internal. You have an abundance of happiness and joy within you. Let it out to party once in a while.
"Thousands of candles can be lit from a single one, and its life will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." – Buddha
If you are not in the right place, maybe try life coaching. You could be inspired to achieve something incredible in just a couple of months.
3 - Practice An Attitude of Gratitude Daily
Practice the attitude of gratitude daily, it will eliminate your fears, it will ease stress, and it will bring you back into balance. When your words relate to lack, or pain or hurt or blame, notice the impact those words have in your body.
With the exact same level of effort you can use the power of words to invoke healing, peace, joy, and abundance. Your unconscious mind will change your experience according to the menu you present.
I am so grateful for the incredible words of encouragement from my co students on the life coaching and NLP training courses. What makes me grateful about that is that I could never have found the ideal role, the inspiration or the ability to shine without them. They mean the world to me and I will always be grateful.
What are you grateful for?
What is it about that, that makes you grateful?
How does that make you feel?
4 - Practice. Practice. Practice.
I once believed the line that "Practice makes perfect" until I heard Justin Sandercoe, a brilliant guitar teacher, say "Practice makes permanent!" Just change that one word and it meant a whole world of difference. That's a light bulb moment.
How you behave is a result of everything you have ever practiced. Poor practice delivers sloppy results. Isn't that true? Practice alone does not make perfect.
Refine your practice. Slow down to get it right. When you get it right every time build your pace. Every time your practice is bang on, your results that follow will be bang on. You hit the right notes when it matters most.
This is true of your words. Practice using the power of words on purpose. Practice by using the power of kind words to yourself instead of beating yourself up all the time. Meditate on peace, joy, health, happiness and experience those feelings radiate from within you. People will notice something different about you.
5 - Use the Power of Incantations On Yourself
What are incantations? Words. Using the power of words on purpose to influence your unconscious mind. Feed your thoughts from the finest a la carte menu.
When you use affirmations, or incantations, you are attracting those positive statements into your life whilst at the same time drowning out all the negative self-talk. Win-Win.
"Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death." - Amy Beals Carter
"I am awesome" "I am successful" "I am in great shape" "I am the power!" Whatever it is. Speak it as if it is already true. Repeat, and then do it again.
Think of a goal you really want but have not achieved yet. Paint the picture of completing the goal on your minds eye. What will you say to yourself in the moment of success?
Now, repeat those words ten times in your head. Make it louder and stronger each time. Make it irresistible, or undeniable.
6 - Use The Power of Words To Change Your Thoughts
You may have heard of Dr Wayne Dyers "Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life." Use the power of words to change your thoughts. Your words hold the power to build or destroy your career, your relationships, your drive and motivation. Your words hold the power to gain support or gain enemies.
Have you been mistreating your "Self" with unkind words? The words you use with yourself hold the power to heal and transform, or cripple your ability to make progress.
Here is the small print: The power of words alone is not enough. You must take action! You cant just sit there saying "I already know all this."
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
If you have heard it before and you are still stuck, you haven't applied it at the level you need to change your life for the better. That's where professional life coaching can help. Transform a current dilemma into a future breakthrough!
7 - Imagine, Act, Perform
Napoleon Hill: “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve”
Anyone who ever achieved an incredible outcome started with an idea. The idea was born of words, thoughts, and imagination. They used the power of words to inspire belief in the vision.
There is an important fact that I have left out until now. The power of words is not just what you say, but how you say them. You must engage your audience. You must move them emotionally to inspire them. Emotion comes from motion.
In fact the actual words are only attributed to 7% of the impact. 38% is attributed to tonality. The remaining 55% is attributed to physicality or posture.
Words Delivery Physiology

When you play, play full out. Be the lead actor or actress. Give your best performance ever. In Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) we refer to this as "getting in state."
If you wish for confidence, create a state where you can act as if your were unstoppable. It would be difficult to get in a confident state while slouching in a chair. Stand up tall, put on your imaginary cape and proclaim in the voice of the most powerful person you know "I am invincible!"
Play around with words until you hit the sweet spot, you will know when you have it just right.
Let The Power Of Words Influence You To Greater Things
Now you know this, you can apply it, with purpose! Your tonality and body language is more important than the words. Go ahead, win your own award for the performance of your lifetime. This is your one shot. Let me share the words of Stephen Covey to close:
"Most people struggle with life balance simply because they haven't paid the price to decide what is really important to them"
To Your Success!
